{"id":654,"date":"2025-04-03T10:42:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-03T10:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bibleholyghost.com\/?p=654"},"modified":"2025-04-03T10:42:02","modified_gmt":"2025-04-03T10:42:02","slug":"the-book-of-matthew-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bibleholyghost.com\/index.php\/2025\/04\/03\/the-book-of-matthew-2\/","title":{"rendered":"THE BOOK OF MATTHEW"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>CHAPTER 1<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Book of Matthew tells us the good news that Jesus is the promised Saviour, the one through whom God fulfilled his promises to his people in the Old Testament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Genealogy and Birth of Jesus<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Matthew 1<\/strong> is not just the opening chapter of the New Testament; it\u2019s the opening act of God\u2019s grand play of redemption, setting the stage for Jesus\u2019s ministry and His ultimate sacrifice for humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through the genealogy and the miraculous birth, we see the integration of divine prophecy and human obedience in God\u2019s salvation plan, reminding us of God\u2019s omnipotence, faithfulness, and His closeness to us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Genealogy of Jesus Christ <\/strong><strong>(Matthew 1: 1-17)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The chapter opens with an exhaustive genealogy, tracing Jesus Christ\u2019s ancestry from Abraham, through David, and up to Joseph, Mary\u2019s husband.&nbsp; This genealogy is structured in three groups of fourteen generations, representing a symbolic organization of Jesus\u2019s lineage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Birth of Jesus Christ.<\/strong><strong> (Matthew 1: 18-25)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second part of the chapter tells the miraculous story of Jesus\u2019s conception.&nbsp; Mary, a virgin betrothed to Joseph, is found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.&nbsp; When Joseph discovers this, he plans to divorce her quietly to avoid public shame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, an angel appears to Joseph in a dream, assuring him that the child Mary is carrying is of the Holy Spirit, and he should not be afraid to take her as his wife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The angel instructs Joseph to name the child Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These events fulfil the prophecy of a virgin bearing a child named <strong>Immanuel,<\/strong> meaning \u201c<strong>God is with us\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the divine intervention, Joseph obeys the angel\u2019s command: He takes Mary as his wife, but does not consummate the marriage until she gives birth to Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Matthew 1<\/strong>, the opening chapter of the New Testament\u2019s first book, establishes the historical and theological foundation for the life of Jesus Christ.&nbsp; By tracing Jesus\u2019s lineage from Abrahamic heritage.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It then recounts the miraculous circumstances of Jesus\u2019 conception and birth, highlighting Joseph\u2019s obedient response to God\u2019s command in a dream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>WHAT DO WE LEARN FROM THIS?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><u>The genealogy of Jesus Christ in<\/u><\/strong> <strong>Matthew 1:1-17<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It presents the genealogy of Jesus, tracing His lineage from Abraham through David to Joseph.&nbsp; The husband of Mary.&nbsp; This establishes Jesus\u2019s legal right to the throne of David, fulfilling Old Testament prophecies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><u>Fulfilment of prophecy<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The genealogy highlights the fulfilment of God\u2019s promises to Abraham and David. Jesus is the promised seed of Abraham <strong>(Genesis 12:3)<\/strong> and the rightful heir to David\u2019s throne <strong>(2 Samuel 7: 12-16)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><u>Inclusion of Gentiles and sinners<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The genealogy includes women like Rahab and Ruth, who were Gentiles, and Bathsheba, who was involved in a scandalous sin.&nbsp;
