{"id":432,"date":"2023-03-05T17:49:20","date_gmt":"2023-03-05T17:49:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bibleholyghost.com\/?p=432"},"modified":"2023-03-05T17:49:45","modified_gmt":"2023-03-05T17:49:45","slug":"luke-chapter-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bibleholyghost.com\/index.php\/2023\/03\/05\/luke-chapter-16\/","title":{"rendered":"<strong>LUKE CHAPTER 16<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>SCRIPTURE<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today I will summarize Luke Chapter 16 where Jesus spoke two extremely controversial things about hell and divorce.\u00a0 Where Jesus spoke about a dishonest manager.\u00a0 Jesus started telling the people a story.\u00a0 He said,\u201d There was a dishonest manager who was defrauding his employer and stealing money.\u00a0 His employer said,\u201d I heard you are a thief.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cGive me all your records and you will be fired.\u201d\u00a0 The man became sacred and said,\u201d What am I going to do? I am too weak for manual labor.\u00a0 I am too proud to beg.\u00a0 I know I\u2019ll steal some more.\u00a0 I \u2018ll tell all of my employer customers that they now have less debt and I\u2019ll sign off on it.\u00a0 That day they will hopefully let me stay with them when I get fired.\u201d \u00a0And that is what he did.\u00a0 But his employer found out and called him into his office.\u00a0 His employer said,\u201d I have to hand it to you.\u00a0 That was pretty shrewd I\u2019m impressed you were thinking about the future for once.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> Now get out.\u00a0 You\u2019re fired.\u00a0 Jesus said, \u201cWhoever is faithful in small matters will be faithful in large ones.\u00a0 Whoever is dishonest in small matters will be dishonest in large ones.\u00a0 If you have not been faithful in handling worldly wealth, how can you be trusted with true wealth?\u00a0 If you have not been faithful to what belongs to someone else, who will give you what belongs to you? No servant can e the slave of two masters.\u00a0 He will hate one and love the other.\u00a0 You cannot serve both God and money.\u00a0\u00a0 The Pharisees who loved money heard Jesus\u2019s words and scoffed at him.\u00a0 Jesus said to them, \u201cYou justify yourselves in the sight of men.\u00a0 But God knows your hearts.\u00a0 The things that I highly esteemed among men are detestable in God\u2019s sight.\u00a0 For Example, you are righteous but you get divorced and marry as many times as you like.\u00a0\u00a0 You don\u2019t consider God\u2019s law about adultery.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery and he who marries an already divorced woman commits adultery as well.\u00a0\u00a0 You are not innocent or righteous in God\u2019s eyes.\u00a0 It\u2019s easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one stroke of the letter of the law to fail.\u00a0 You think you can do whatever you want to do and you convince yourselves that you are righteous and that you are going to heaven you are wrong.\u00a0\u00a0 Jesus told the Pharisees and the people this story.\u00a0\u00a0 He said,\u201d I am going to use people\u2019s names so you don\u2019t think that is a parable.\u00a0 This is real.\u00a0 There is a rich man who is habitually dressed in fine clothes and happily lived in splendor every day.\u00a0\u00a0 A poor man named Lazarus was laid at his gate.\u00a0 So, perhaps the rich man would have compassion and give him something to eat but he did not.\u00a0 Even the dogs came and licked Lazarus\u2019s skin where he had open sores.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/bibleholyghost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/jesus-christ-4676641_1920-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-259\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bibleholyghost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/jesus-christ-4676641_1920-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/bibleholyghost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/jesus-christ-4676641_1920-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bibleholyghost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/jesus-christ-4676641_1920-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/bibleholyghost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/jesus-christ-4676641_1920-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/bibleholyghost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/jesus-christ-4676641_1920-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/bibleholyghost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/jesus-christ-4676641_1920.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One day Lazarus died and angels carried him to a place called Abraham\u2019s bosom or paradise.\u00a0 The rich man also died one day but his soul descended into hell. In Hades, he lifted his eyes.\u00a0 He was in torment.\u00a0 He saw Abraham and Lazarus far away.\u00a0 He cried and said,\u201d Abraham, please send Lazarus to dip his finger in water and cool off my tongue.\u00a0 I\u2019m in agony in this ragging fire.\u00a0 Abraham said,\u201d remember in your life you had good things.\u00a0 Lazarus had very bad things.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But things are different in the afterlife.\u00a0 Also, there is a great canyon between you and us.\u00a0 No one can pass over this canyon even if they wanted to.\u00a0 The rich man then said,\u201d Abraham, then please do this one thing for me. Send Lazarus back from the dead.\u00a0 I have five brothers.\u00a0 Have Lazarus warn them not to come to this hellish nightmare.\u00a0 Abraham said,\u201d No, they have Moses and the prophet\u2019s writings but they murid and listen to them.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The rich man replied,\u201d No, they will not listen to them.\u00a0 They will only listen and repent if someone comes back from the dead.\u00a0 Abraham said,\u201d You\u2019re wrong, you don\u2019t understand how any of this works.\u00a0 If they don\u2019t listen to Moses and the prophets of God; they will not be persuaded if someone raises from the dead to warn them to repent and to avoid hell at all costs. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>OBSERVATION<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The thing I think the Lord wants us to understand after reading this chapter is that he wants everyone to do things today that will positively affect their eternal future.&nbsp; He wants us to see that being faithful to the resources that he owns is some sort of test for the next life.&nbsp; God wants us to see that he considers getting a divorce and marrying someone else as committing adultery.&nbsp; And God wants us to see from the facts that Jesus gave about the rich man and Lazarus that hell is real and it is a horrible place.&nbsp; God wants us to see that before Jesus paid the price on the cross as a ransom for many that righteous people like Abraham went to a place called Abraham\u2019s bosom or paradise that was close enough to Hades that they could see people there.&nbsp; Of course, all of that changed once Jesus defeated hell and death, and now the righteous immediately go to a place called heaven when they die.&nbsp;&nbsp; Jesus spoke about some very controversial things in this chapter.&nbsp;&nbsp; When you hear those words what is your immediate reaction to them?&nbsp; Do you recoil or reject them?&nbsp; Do you embrace them?&nbsp; I hope you do embrace them with open arms that\u2019s partially what surrendering to the lord means.&nbsp; Repent for your sin and place your faith in Christ for salvation right now. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>Prayer<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Father God,<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-light-green-cyan-background-color has-text-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">You have shown yourself faithful throughout Scripture.&nbsp; Thank you for being faithful in our lives too. Forgive us for all those times we have doubted you in the past and at times, taken things into our hands, and not trust you with our situation.&nbsp;&nbsp; You love us and want the best for us.&nbsp; Your love for us is immeasurable and unconditional.&nbsp; Everything that happens in our lives you allow, even if it\u2019s painful at times.&nbsp; Remind us that \u201cyou work all things for our good for those who love you.\u201d <strong>(Romans 8:28)<\/strong> Prompt us in our moments of doubt to never forget all the things you have done in our lives.&nbsp; Never forget that you sent your very own son to die a brutal death on the cross at Calvery because you love us. <strong>(John 3:16)<\/strong> To never forget all the answered prayers and comfort you have provided us over the years.&nbsp; Never forget that you are God, and we will one day spend eternity with you.&nbsp; Never forget that your \u201cplans for us are good as they are plans to prosper us and not to harm us, they are plans that give us hope and future\u201d<strong> (Jeremiah 29:11)<\/strong> Lord, we trust you today because you are faithful, and we know your faithfulness never runs dry.&nbsp; We love you and remember you, we remember all that you are, and we remember all that you have done today.&nbsp; Dear Lord no matter what trials await us tomorrow, may we never forget the blessings you have shown us.&nbsp; Help me cling to you as my anchor.&nbsp; Help me remember your steadfast love and faithfulness for me.&nbsp; Gracious father may I lift my heart and my hands to you.
