LUKE CHAPTER 1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scripture:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today I will summarize Luke chapter 1 where Luke described why he was writing this book, where he described John the Baptist\u2019s birth, and where he described the situation with Mary and the angel.\u00a0 Luke wrote to a man named Theophilus.\u00a0 He said he wanted to compile all the eyewitness accounts of the things about Jesus.\u00a0 Luke said,\u201d It is fitting for me to have investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consecutive order so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught\u201d.\u00a0 Luke began, and wrote,\u201d In the days of Herod, King of Judea, there was a man named Zacharias.\u00a0 His wife\u2019s name was Elizabeth.\u00a0 She was old and barren.\u00a0 While Zacharias was performing his priestly service, he was chosen by Lot to burn incense in the temple.\u00a0 While he did so, an angel of God named Gabriel spoke with him and said,\u201d Don\u2019t be afraid.\u00a0 Your prayers have been answered.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your wife will give birth to a son and you will name him John.\u00a0 He will be filled with the Holy Spirit even while he is in the womb.\u00a0 He will have the Spirit and power of the prophet Elijah.\u00a0 He will be the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecy.\u00a0 Zacharias didn\u2019t believe the angel and questioned him.\u00a0 The angel said,\u201d I stand in the presence of God, and you doubt my words? Because you don\u2019t believe me you will be mute until all these things take place.\u00a0 So, Zacharias couldn\u2019t speak any words at all.\u00a0 He had to communicate by writings down.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a while, he went back home after his priestly duties were finished, and Elizabeth became pregnant soon after.\u201d Luke continued,\u201d the angel Gabriel was sent from God to Nazareth, to a virgin named Mary who was engaged to a man named Joseph.\u00a0 The angel said, Greetings, favored one.\u00a0 The Lord is with you.\u00a0 You have found favor with the Lord. You will conceive a child, and you will call his name Jesus.\u00a0 He will be called the Son of the Highest, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever.\u00a0 His kingdom will have no end.\u201d Mary said, \u201cHow is this possible since I am a virgin?\u00a0 The angel said, \u201cthe Holy Spirit will overshadow you and you will become pregnant.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your child will be called the son of God.\u00a0 Nothing is impossible with God.\u00a0 Your relative Elizabeth is also pregnant in her old age.\u00a0 She is also no longer barren.\u201d\u00a0 Mary said, \u201cI am the Lord\u2019s servant.\u00a0 Let it be done to me according to your word.\u00a0 \u201cThen the angel left.\u00a0 A few months later, Mary went to see Elizabeth to congratulate her.\u00a0 Mary got to the house and gave her a greeting.\u00a0 As soon as she did, the baby John, still in his mother\u2019s womb, jumped around for joy.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and said,\u201d Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.\u00a0 How has it happened to me, that the mother of my Lord has come to see me?\u00a0 Blessed are you, Mary.\u00a0 You believed that God would do what he said he was going to do in your life\u201d. Mary then said, \u201cmy soul exalts the lord. My spirit rejoices in God my savior.\u00a0 He has regard for me, his humble servant.\u00a0 He has done great things with his mighty arm.\u00a0 He fills the hungry with food.\u00a0 He throws down rulers from their thrones.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He sent the rich away empty-handed but gave Israel his servant\u2019s help.\u00a0 He remembered his mercy when he spoke to Abraham.\u00a0 All generations from now on will call me blessed.\u201d\u00a0 About 3 months later, the time finally arrived when Elizabeth was going to give birth.\u00a0 All her neighbors and relatives have gathered around.\u00a0 They wanted to pick out the boy\u2019s name.\u00a0 They thought Zacharias was a good name, after his father.\u00a0 Elizabeth said,\u201d his name is going to be John\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They questioned her and said, \u201cWe\u2019ll ask Zacharias what he wants the name to be\u2019.\u00a0 Since he was still mute, they gave him a piece of paper and said,\u2019 write down the boy\u2019s name\u2019.\u00a0 Zacharias wrote the name, \u201cJOHN\u201d to everyone\u2019s amazement.\u00a0 As soon as he did that, his tongue was loosed and he began to praise God.\u00a0 Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit and he prophesied, and said, \u201cBlessed is the Lord God.\u00a0 He raised up a horn of salvation from us from King David\u2019s family line.\u00a0 He gave us salvation from our enemies and from everyone who hates us.\u00a0 He showed his mercy towards our fathers, and now to us.\u00a0 You, my son John will be called a prophet of the Highest.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You will prepare the way for the Messiah.\u00a0 You will give people knowledge of salvation by the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of God.\u2019\u00a0 And from there John continued to grow and become strong.\u00a0 He left home and lived in a desert until the day of his public appearance before the Messiah arrived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Observation:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The thing I think the lord wants to understand after reading this chapter is that he instructed the angel Gabriel to tell Zacharias and Mary some unbelievable things.\u00a0 Zacharias was actually praying for his wife to become pregnant in her old age, but when Gabriel told him that his prayer was heard and the Lord said yes, he did not believe it was possible.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mary was not praying to become pregnant, but when the angel Gabriel told her she was going to have a baby as a virgin, she believed that God can do anything he wants any time he wants and she was willing to do his will whatever that looked like.\u00a0 She was greatly rewarded for her faith.\u00a0 Why is it so hard for some people to believe that God can do anything he wants at any time?\u00a0 Do you believe that? If not, you don\u2019t know the true God.\u00a0 You can know him today.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why don\u2019t you consider repenting for your sin and turning to the Lord for salvation today?\u00a0 Jesus humbled himself and died on the cross as our substitute. The father who raised Jesus from the dead. God said if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and if you believe in your heart that the father raised Jesus from the dead, you will be saved. Come let us do that right now.\u00a0 \u00a0We all want God to answer our prayers.\u00a0 We believe in the power of prayers, but when it comes down to our own individual lives and our problems, we often don\u2019t have the faith to believe God will answer.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The times we are living are very difficult.\u00a0 We are often rapped by our unbelief and fear, but God is preparing us for the end-time harvest.\u00a0 He wants to enlarge our territory.\u00a0 He wants to bless us with an increase because his nature is to care and bestow divine favors on us.\u00a0\u00a0 We are the ones who limit him because of our lack of trust and our fear of stepping out in faith.\u00a0 The truth is that the things we do for God should be outside of our ability.\u00a0 When we back away from dependence and trust in God, we are not living by faith.\u00a0 He wants us to trust and obey his word.\u00a0 He wants us to be strong and courageous.\u00a0\u00a0 We need to be willing to attempt things big enough that unless God steps in, we are sure to fail.\u00a0 This is the kind of trust and dependence he is looking for in our life.\u00a0 We need not be shaken.\u00a0 He can break through every obstacle.\u00a0 He is the God of the Impossible!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prayer:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lord, I thank you that you are the God of the Impossible.\u00a0 You can do anything.\u00a0 I want to trust in your ability and not my own.\u00a0 Teach me to see difficulties in my life from your perspective.\u00a0 Help me to focus on you and your power.\u00a0 I want to be like Joshua and Caleb who believed in a good report and focused on you even in hard circumstances. (Numbers 14: 7-9<\/strong>) My responsibility is to carefully read, trust and obey your word.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have nothing to fear with you on my side.\u00a0 I will be strong and courageous even in hard times.\u00a0 I will not be terrified or discouraged, for the lord my God will be with me wherever I go.\u00a0 You will never leave me or forsake me.\u00a0 You already know the best plan for my life.\u00a0 I will try any man-made method to do only what you can do.\u00a0 Teach me how to walk by faith and pray breakthrough prayers.\u00a0 Show me father your supernatural powers.\u00a0 I choose to have faith in your ability to break through every obstacle in my life.\u00a0 Through you we push back our enemies, you put our adversaries to shame.\u00a0 I will praise the Lord who counsels me.\u00a0 I have set the Lord always before me.\u00a0\u00a0 Because he is at my right hand I will not be shaken.\u00a0 Therefore, my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices.\u00a0 My body will rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your holy one sees decay.\u00a0 You have made known to me the path of life.\u00a0 You will fill me with your joy and presence with eternal pleasures at your right hand.\u00a0 I make this prayer In Jesus\u2019s name Amen.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
