New Testament
JOHN CHAPTER 15
SCRIPTURE
Today I will summarize John chapter 15 where Jesus spoke to his disciples about how he is
the wine and they are the branches and gave them a warning that the world will hate them
for being his disciples. Jesus used specific wording about wine and branches when speaking
with his disciples.
He told them that he was the true vine and they were the branches. He also tells them that
they like branches of grape wine and can only produce fruit if they live beside him. He
said,” The father is the gardener and would cut off any branch that doesn’t bear fruit and
would prune any good wine-bearing fruit so that it would bear even more fruit.
Jesus told the disciples to remain in him. If they do that, they can ask for whatever they
wish and it will be done for them. Jesus also told them to remain in his love and told them
that if they kept his commands they would remain in his love. He told them that he no
longer considered them servants but now considered them friends because he taught them
everything the father told him to teach.
Jesus explained that he chose them and appointed them to go and bear fruit that will last
forever. Jesus then explained to the disciples that they were in for a hard life because the
world will now hate them for being his disciples. Jesus told them that the world and Satan
will hate him and now the world and Satan will persecute them harshly.
This applies to the people who also place their faith in Jesus in this day and age. But it will
be well worth the suffering in the end.
He added that anyone who hates him also hates the Father in heaven. Once again Jesus
told the disciples that he was going to send the holy spirit soon to convict people of sin and
to testify about Jesus. He mentioned that the disciples were going to assist him in that
regard. Testifying to everyone about Jesus and how they could be saved through him.
OBSERVATION
The thing I think the Lord wants us to understand after reading this chapter is that Jesus was
warning us that once we put our faith in him life would get very difficult but that it would be
well worth it in the end. If we truly love Jesus, we will obey his teachings and if we don’t
love him, we won’t care and we won’t be careful to do what he commands. Choose to love
Jesus and obey his commands. Turn to him for salvation. He sacrificed himself on the cross
to pay for our sins. If we believe in him and we repent for our sins he will make us
blameless in the Father’s eyes. We will be welcomed into heaven. Many of you who are
reading this may not have a tomorrow because life is very unpredictable. So, turn to Jesus
for the resurrection and life today.
When we feel we are carrying more than we can handle, we are to turn it over to God. God
gives us rest, peace, hope, and salvation through his son, Jesus.
Our model, our Lord, and Saviour Jesus Christ, showed us exactly how to deal with trials.
When he was sad, Jesus cried out to God. He prayed he wept, and he even begged God to
take “His cup” away Luke 22: 42. And ultimately, he accepted what God chose to do.
As Psalm 121: 1-2 says,” I lift my eyes to the mountains—where will my help come from?
My Help will come from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.”
However, we are still only human. Sometimes, suffering gets the best of us. We can no
longer endure its crippling blows and we fall flat. Other times, instead of standing strong
against temptation, we surrender. We take the earthly path instead of the heavenly,
eternal path.
But God is a merciful, compassionate father who loves us and offers us grace. He sent his
son to show us the way and pay the price for our sins. And when we, who believe in Jesus
as our Saviour, do wrong and genuinely repent of our wrongdoing, God forgives us and
welcomes us back into his flock.
We don’t deserve this grace. God gives it freely out of his abundant, extravagant, never-
ending well of mercy and compassion.
All we must do is accept this gift and trust God will handle everything. God will indeed give
you more than you can handle. The point is to remember you are not God. Instead, you are
to turn into the only one who can triumph.
The Alpha and Omega, Beginning and End—– Father God.
Prayer
Lord, I am weak. I beg you: Help my faith. Help me to lay my burdens at your feet. Help
me to remember this time on earth is temporary. And my citizenship is in Heaven with you.
On my own I am nothing, but with you, I can do all things, endure all things, have peace in
all things. Allow me to walk with you now and forever and accept your perfect will.
Amen.
“Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew
11:28
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with
thanksgiving, present your request to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all
understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
